California sea lion Babymac was found in a parking lot, a dangerous spot far from where he should have been. Fortunately, our trained responders were alerted through our hotline and, with help from our friends at Mountain View Police, Babymac was rescued and
transported to our hospital.
Whether in a parking lot or at the beach, approaching an animal for any reason can cause them stress and risk not only their safety, but also yours and your pets’. If you think a marine mammal needs help, keep a distance of at least 150 feet and call our experts at 415-289-SEAL (7325).
Our veterinarians found that Babymac was severely malnourished, weak and much too young to have been without his mom. This resilient pup made slow but steady progress, gaining a healthy amount of weight, eating on his own and competing for food well with his penmates – all encouraging signs!
After nearly three months in care, Babymac was released alongside two other sea lions at Point Reyes National Seashore with a second chance at life.
